An around £1.5 million project to get two Holbeach High Street landmarks back in working use is moving along apace.
Rob Bridgewater and Jamie Sandford of API Limited have bought both former hotels The Chequers and The Bell.
The pair hope that their bid to turn The Bell into five apartments with a retail outlet downstairs will be ready to open in just a few months.
The Chequers being semi-derelict is a bigger job but work is progressing well on returning it to a hub for the community with the upstairs rooms to be made into four apartments.
As it was in a semi-derelict state, work will take longer to get it back but sand blasting has just been completed after a vote held on Facebook saw 60 per cent of 247 votes asked for the frontage to be stripped back and re-pointed.
Jamie said of the current building work: “It’s been relatively straightforward at the moment.
“The community seems really happy with the proposals. As we’ve always said, we want to turn it into a hub for Holbeach.
“It’s great to be a part of turning an old building back into something that’s going to be great for the town.
Rob added: “We’re putting our mark on the town.
“We’re helping to secure the future for buildings with hundreds of years of history and ensuring they’re no longer an eyesore.
“People can see the changes we’re making and are excited by the plans.”
