Pair’s hair raising charity effort

Two ‘skinheads’ have raised £6,135 for charity by attempting to grow their hair.

Wayne Turner, of Long Sutton, and Alan Sharman, of Spalding, both describe themselves as ‘naturally bald’.

When it came for wanting to do something for charity Winston’s Wish, having their heads shaved was out of the question.

So instead they attempted to grow it.

In a year, they managed to add three and a half inches to their locks before a hair cutting ceremony recently.

It was all in memory of Sadie Goodger, who died in May 2022, leaving behind a 11-year-old daughter.

The charity Winston’s Wish provides counselling for people under 25 who suffer a bereavement.

“I decided to try and grow a pony tail, which looked ridiculous, while Alan styled his into a Mohican,” said Wayne, who works at Leeson’s garage in Sutton Bridge. “Winston’s Wish is close to our hearts as they gave a lot of support and help to our friend Sadie’s daughter when she died.

“We’ve had a lot of help and support from family and friends, as well a quite a bit of banter off them too.

“My wife Sharon didn’t think a lot of the hair and she kept saying it was like having a full time job shaving bits of my hair.

“It had to be all gone before by oldest daughter Sophie got married.”
