Paint initiative provides new gloss to tip

An initiative offering free paint and a place for you to take your unused tins has launched in Spalding.

The Community RePaint Store opened at the Spalding Household Waste Recycling Centre today (Friday August 29).

It collects unused and leftover paint that would otherwise go to waste and makes it available to local people completely free of charge.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council said: “Whether you’re refreshing a room or tackling a creative project, the store offers a wide variety of paints in different colours and finishes.

Coun Danny Brookes, executive member for environment at Lincolnshire County Council which opened the new provision at its HWRC, said: “We’re really pleased to see the Community RePaint network expanding across Lincolnshire. These stores offer a brilliant way for residents to access free paint, save money, and do their bit for the environment at the same time.”

This latest opening follows successful launches at the Louth, Grantham, Lincoln, Tattershall, Sleaford, Market Rasen, Boston, Bourne and Gainsborough Household Waste Recycling Centres.

Coun Nick Worth, leader of South Holland District Council said: “It’s fantastic to see this initiative taking root in our district. It not only strengthens our local community but also contributes meaningfully to the county’s wider efforts to reduce waste. I encourage residents to make the most of this opportunity and support its continued success.”

Coun Jim Astill, portfolio holder for Environmental Services at South Holland District Council, said, “The Community RePaint initiative plays an important role in our commitment to reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

“By collecting excess and leftover paint that would otherwise be disposed of, the scheme helps divert usable materials from being thrown away and puts them to good use within the community.

“Making this paint available free of charge not only supports local residents and community groups with home improvement and creative projects but also reinforces our wider environmental goals by encouraging reuse and waste minimisation.”

Residents wishing to take advantage of the Community RePaint scheme — whether to drop off paint or collect some — simply need to speak to a member of staff on site.

It is open during the usual recycling centre open hours from 8am to 4pm, Friday to Tuesday at West Marsh Road, in Spalding.

The types of paint available depend on what has been brought in for disposal, but most types are accepted.
