Tydd St Mary made it four wins on the bounce on Saturday when they came from behind to beat Oakham United Reserves 4-3 in ChromaSport PDFL Division One.
The Saints began the game poorly and struggled to get hold of Oakham, who took the match to Tydd from the off. They were rewarded after 26 minutes when Ewan Crawford made it 1-0 – and doubled their lead through Courtney Ravenscroft on 41 minutes.
Tydd managed to grab a goal back in first half stoppage time when new signing Eddy Pentney cleverly laid off the ball for the onrushing Nick Ainslie to smash it into the back of the net.
After some strong words from the management at the break, Tydd grabbed a goal back to level the score just five minutes after the re-start when Stu Easey found Matty Clayden with a lovely pass for the latter to strike home.
The Saints then took the lead for the first time in the match on the hour. Pentney cut inside from the left, beat a player and then smashed a lethal shot towards the Oakham goal that was wickedly deflected into the net.
However, Oakham didn’t take that lying down and they levelled the match on 74 minutes with a scrappy David Michael goal making it 3-3.
The Saints kept their heads and re-took the lead just two minutes later when the goal of the game was scored. The influential Easey found Jason Bradshaw, who crafted a delightful lob over the Oakham keeper from all of 20 yards out.
Elsewhere in Division One, Paul Newcombe was on red-hot form as Long Sutton Althletic beat Oundle Town 3-1 at London Road on Saturday.
The winger notched twice for the Magpies, while also setting up Liam O’Connor for the other goal.
The win leaves Sutton third in the table – just behind Moulton Harrox Reserves.
Kev Nottingham’s defending champions beat Wittering Harriers 3-1 with goals from Danny Lambe-Hyner (2) and Jamie Francis.
