On-song Gosberton B topple leaders Pyramid B to blow snooker title race wide open

The Division Two title race in Spalding and District Snooker League is really heating up after third-placed Gosberton B thrashed table-toppers Pyramid B 5-1 last Thursday night.

Breaks of 27 and 24 respectively from decorated duo Jason Green (O63) and Alfonso Palumbo (O49) were in vain for the Bourne side, as David Nichols (R21), Adam Twigg (scr), Sam Craft (scr) and Martin Ulyatt (R7) all roared to frame wins.

The victory leaves Gosberton seven points off top spot, alongside second-placed Services C.

Spalding side Services missed the chance to close the gap further after a 4-2 reverse at Holbeach B.

A 46 break and 26 clearance from Lee Pickett (O21) was the highlight for Holbeach.

One side that did take the chance to propel themselves into the title frame are Pyramid C. They whitewashed Consti G 6-0 in a match that saw Alan Jackson (scr) finish with a 22 clearance.

Up in Division One, Bourne SC A missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Donington A as they slipped up 4-2 at Pyramid A.

Michael Twell (R14) sealed their fate in the Bourne derby with victory in the penultimate frame.

Behind them, in-form Services E made it seven wins in a row by seeing off Long Sutton A 5-1 on their own baize.

Breaks of 40 and 32 from Sean Swinburn (O35) and Wayne Dent (O35) weren’t enough for Sutton, as Services moved to within ten points of second place.

They are now ahead of Holbeach A, who went down 5-1 at relegation-threatened Consti B despite a 20 break from Jem Merrison (O42).

Elsewhere in the top flight, Nick Savic (O42) managed a 33 clearance as Tulips A saw off Boundary B 5-1.

In Division Three, Whittlesey C kept their faint title hopes alive with a 5-1 victory over Consti A. Malc Bromfield (R14), Lol Hailstone (R14), Mick Blythe (R7) and Steve Jennings (O35) all won frames for them.

Gosberton A are three points behind them in third after a 5-1 home loss against Services B. The Spalding side were inspired by a 47 break from Tim Nash (O21).

A further eight points back in fourth are Long Sutton C, who dispatched Whittlesey B 5-1. Mark Dennis (scr) sealed that win in the fourth frame.

At the other end of the table, Donington B enjoyed a rare win as they beat Bourne SC B 4-2.
