A member of the public taunted and heckled an officer who was being assaulted last weekend, police have said.
The incident happened on Sunday evening.
Spalding Police tweeted on Monday: “Sad to report another @SpaldingPolice officer assaulted during the night, face scratched and nose bloodied. Suspect in custody following #Taser being used.
“Disappointing to see a member of the public taunting and heckling officers while they were wrestling with the suspect.”
Spalding Police inspector Gareth Boxall, said: “I can confirm that Lincolnshire Police received a report at 20:52 on 25 March to a concern for safety.
“In the course of dealing with that incident at Railway Close, Spalding, an officer was assaulted. One man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly, criminal damage and assaulting a police officer. He remains in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
“Our officers are there to help our community and it is thoroughly unacceptable for police officers or any of our emergency services to be assaulted.
“Too often, in the course of just doing their job they are injured by those who think it acceptable to assault them.
“Whilst we want to see all violent crime punished, it is important that assaults against those serving the public (not just police officers) are dealt with robustly.”
