Northampton Sileby’s no-show leaves Holbeach Uited boss Hayes angry

Holbeach United boss Seb Hayes couldn’t hide his frustration after seeing rivals Northampton Sileby Rangers fail to turn up for their fixture at Carter’s Park on Saturday.

Sileby boss Matt Clarke quit the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division strugglers on Friday night – and they were unable to raise a side for Saturday’s showdown.

The match was officially called off at 3.15pm, with the Tigers instead opting to have a training session ahead of Wednesday night’s home game with Cogenhoe United (7.45pm).

Hayes accepts that the match should be played at a later date due to the Tigers’ involvement in the title race, but was left thoroughly annoyed by events.

He said: “Obviously something has gone on there (at Sileby) and the manager has left them in it by resigning when he did.

“It’s not really on, but what can we do? I keep changing my mind regarding how I feel about it. We were ready for the game and prepared accordingly, but then we heard they weren’t coming.

“At the moment, I’m annoyed that we’ve been unable to build on the momentum we gained during last week’s win at Peterborough Northern Star.

“I’m very unhappy as we’ve lost more ground on the sides above us through no fault of our own.

“I do feel like the game should be replayed, though. We’re still mathematically able to win the league, so I’d hate to be given the points and then have the usual people moaning online about how we were gifted the league title, or something.

“I think that, at any other stage of the season, the league would probably have given us the points.”
