South Holland residents are being asked to vote on a name for the sports centre in Spalding.
The Castle is currently being redeveloped in a £28.3m project, with the first phase of work due to be complete later this year ahead of it opening to the public in early 2027.
And South Holland District Council has come up with four names and is asking people to vote for their favourite.
But the cut-off date is Sunday, February 8.
“As work continues, the council is asking residents to take part in a simple public vote to help select the new centre’s name from a shortlist created in partnership with existing stakeholders, sports clubs and community users,” said a statement from South Holland District Council.
The names are:
- Castle Activity & Fitness Centre.
- South Holland Activity & Fitness Centre
- Castle Wellness & Activity Centre
- South Holland Wellness & Activity Centre.
Coun Gary Taylor, the council’s project sponsor, said: “We want a name that reflects the ambitions and priorities of the centre, but also that represents the everyday experience and useage of our residents. I hope that people will take the chance to have their say on this important new facility for health and wellbeing across South Holland.”
Some residents were already making their feelings known on the council’s social media.
Posts on the council’s Facebook suggest it should remain as the Castle Sports Centre because that’s what it has always been.
“What’s wrong with The Castle Sports Centre? Why ask for people’s help with the name but then give a shortlist?” said one.
“Even if you change it, the majority will still call it Castle Sports Centre, which is a perfectly good name, this is just pointless change for no real reason,” said another.
