Performance levels were just not there as Holbeach United fell to a 4-1 defeat at Cornard United in Division One North of the Thurlow Nunn League on Saturday.
The Sudbury side took an early lead with a wicked free-kick but Will Barnes levelled when he was first to react to a rebound.
However, the hosts regained the lead two minutes after the break and added another from the penalty spot after 70 minutes. A 25-yard effort completed the scoreline to dent Holbeach’s hopes of closing the gap on the play-off contenders.
The visitors’ man of the match was Jordan Oldham.
Manager Danny Clifton said: “It was another tough one to take. Performance levels are just not good enough at the moment and somehow we need to restore some belief back into the players.”
It followed a 3-1 reversal at FC Peterborough last Wednesday, when substitute Sam Harris got their goal in the closing stages.
Clifton said it had been a disappointing performance.
