No excuses from Dunn as Pinchbeck United crash to first defeat of season

A last-gasp Gary Gibbs goal sentenced Pinchbeck United to their first ChromaSport PDFL Premier Division defeat of the season on Saturday.

Peterborough Sports Reserves edged to a 2-1 triumph at Knight Street thanks to a 93rd-minute winner – scored soon after debutant Callum Clark thought he’d rescued a point for Ian Dunn’s side in the 88th minute

The defeat piled on the frustration for much-fancied Pinchbeck, who have won just one of their opening five fixtures.

Injuries and unavailability have hampered their progress, but Dunn feels his side have got what they deserve so far.

He said: “In the end we’re absolutely devastated to lose.

“I’d have been disappointed with a draw, so to lose is hard to take.

“But we can have no excuses, it was much like the rest of our season so far. We played well in patches, but haven’t managed to put an entire game together yet.

“Although I feel we deserved more in this game, I do think our points haul so far is a fair reflection of our season.

“The only positive is that we’ve only lost once.

“It’s hard to put my finger on what has gone wrong, we looked great in pre-season and hopes were high.

“Perhaps we peaked too soon? I don’t know.

“Last season we finished superbly. We need to get back to that.

“Injuries and unavailability hasn’t been great, but I’m not going to make any excuses.”

Pinchbeck: Ashton, A Murrell, B Murrell, Brooks, Gardner, Shipley, Bishop, Eyes, Ogden, Ramos, Edwards. Subs used: Clark, Leggett, Panton.

Attendance: 35.
