No charges after nursery closure

No prosecutions are currently planned after a nursery was closed by inspectors for being unsafe.

Little Treasures Spalding, in Haverfield Road was shut down following Ofsted rating it inadequate.

“Children are not safe, and we have therefore suspended the provider’s registration during the inspection,” said the report by Lora Teague carried out in November. “Children are handled physically in an inappropriate manner by some staff.”

The Voice asked Ofsted if any criminal proceedings would be made as a result but they told us to contact the police.

The police told us to contact Lincolnshire County Council who said we should contact the police and Ofsted.

Eventually Lincolnshire Police said it had not received a request for criminal proceedings.
Geraldine O’Neill, sustainability and development manager, at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Ofsted is responsible for such inspections and determines what action is necessary, such as suspending or cancelling a provider’s registration.

“However, any childcare provider who receives an Ofsted judgement that identifies areas of concern are prioritised for support by the council’s early years and childcare support team.

“When a setting is rated less than ‘good’, an advisor is allocated to work with them on actions raised, ahead of future inspections. The council will remove funding from any childcare provider who is rated ‘inadequate’.

“The council also works closely with the Local Authority Designated Officer to provide safeguarding support to all childcare providers in Lincolnshire.

“Holbeach Little Treasures was inspected by Ofsted on December 5, and received a ‘good’ judgement.

“We have a dedicated adviser working closely with the nursery to help them to maintain this standard.”
Little Treasures Nurseries had three sites in South Holland.

Little Treasures Pinchback closed earlier in 2022. Little Treasures Holbeach remains open and at its last Ofsted was rated Good in every category.

The Voice has attempted to contact a manager responsible for Little Treasures Nurseries but has received no response.
