Nice and three-sy for Roger after latest ace at Spalding Golf Club

Roger Brown sank the third hole-in-one of his golfing career last week – some 35 years after first bagging an ace.

The Spalding Golf Club member was playing with his wife Paula at the Surfleet course, in a match with lady captain Hannah Palmer and Gary Palmer.

Brown’s hole-in-one came on the ninth hole and he was using a six iron.

All three of his aces have come at Spalding, with the second being 15 years ago.

  • Elaine Hancock, Pat West and Sally West won Spalding Golf Club’s Lady President’s Day competition with 75 Stableford points.

Some 16 teams of three entered for the waltz competition at the Surfleet course, with Angela Roper, Jean White and Eden Inglis a point back in second position.

Irene Brotherton, Deborah Ellis and Beryl Clay (71 points) took third.

  • A friendly fixture at Woodhall Spa on July 10 saw Spalding’s ladies whitewashed 4-0.

Hannah Thorold and Lynda Double lost 2&1, while Olive Gooderson and Chris Vickers, Margaret Barkway and Maureen Orwell, and Millie Thorold and Jean Wilkinson all lost 1 down.

  • Spalding’s ladies also halved a friendly with Belton Park 2-2 at the Surfleet course three days earlier.

Wins came from Jean Wilkinson and Jenny Wilson (4&3) and Carol Thomas and Gill Dewhurst (5&4), but Chris Vickers and Anne Ellis (5&4) and Di West and Eileen Bridge (8&7) were soundly beaten.

  • Spalding also picked up a 4.5-1.5 friendly win at Milton.

Wins came from Hannah Thorold and Angela Roper (4&3), Anne Ellis and Eileen Bridge (3&1), Sue Matthews and Mags Filby (5&4) and Lynda Double and Millie Thorold (3&1), while Anita

Cross and Deborah Ellis halved and Beryl Clay and Chris Vickers lost.

  • The Spalding ladies’ A team suffered a 2.5-1.5 defeat at Blankney despite a 1up win from Nicky Weller and Anita Cross.

Pat West and Elaine Hancock halved, while Tilly Garfoot and Elizabeth Holbrook lost 3&2 and Ruth Atkins and Paula Brown lost 2&1.

The A team also lost 4-0 at Canwick Park as Pat West and Elaine Hancock lost 1 down, Angela Roper and Tilly Garfoot lost 1 down, Elizabeth Holbrook and Lesley Williams lost 3&2 and Nicky Weller and Paula Brown lost 7&5.

  • Spalding ladies’ B team have been in fine form of late – including three recent wins.

They kicked off the run by beating South Kyme 4-0 thanks to triumphs from Nicky Weller and Tracy Siddle (5&4), Anita Cross and Ruth Atkins (2up), Paula Brown and Barbara Newcombe (4&2) and Jackie Bailey-Scott and Sue Watson (3&2).

Next up was a 3-1 victory at Kirton Holme, with wins from Elizabeth Holbrook and Nicky Weller (2up), Anita Cross and Ruth Atkins (8&6) and Paula Brown and Barbara Newcombe (2&1).
Sue Watson and Jacquie Clare lost (4&2).

A big 4-0 Surfleet success over Carholme followed, with Holbrook and Weller winning 6&5, Brown and Cross 4&3 winners, Atkins and Bailey Scott 7&6 victors and Sue Watson and Jacquie Clare prevailing 1up.
