Someone in the group who attacked murder victim Warren Free is alleged to have said as they walked away: “Oh s***, what if he’s dead?”
Lincoln Crown Court heard that the group was relieved when they looked round and saw the father-of-two getting to his feet after the incident near his home in Coronation Close in Spalding on August 28 last year.
Stuart Trimmer QC, for the prosecution, said the comment indicated that the group knew the level of violence which it had “meted out”.
The court heard that two witnesses had heard girls screaming and boys shouting.
One was so concerned that he called 999 at 3.43am believing there to be a rape.
Another witness heard a girl say: “I’ve got his blood on my shoe.”
Jake Edwards, who gave his address at an earlier hearing as Mill Green Road, Pinchbeck, is alleged to have replied: “It’s all right – it’s only his. He’s got back up again.”
A short time later, Edwards was stopped by police responding to the call.
Mr Trimmer said: “He admitted he had been to the skate park and admitted being noisy.”
The girls were also stopped. One said she had been at her auntie’s but the other admitted both had been at the park and there had been an argument “with an old man”. He had approached and thrown a piece of wood at them.
They said no one was hurt. Police then escorted them to one of the girl’s homes.
The court was told that later that day when news spread that an air ambulance had landed near the attack site, it sparked a flurry of communications.
Mr Trimmer said: “There were text messages and phone calls between various members of the group. Some of the defendants made admissions to their involvement.”
All six defendants deny murder. The trial continues.
