A Spalding couple have launched an urgent appeal for clothes to send to Syrian refugee children.
Mark and Sarah Le Sage have been so moved by the images of those suffering in the crisis that they have decided to act.
Ella’s Syrian Appeal is a spin-off of Ella’s Project, launched earlier this year after the couple found no specific charity to which they could donate their two-year-old daughter’s outgrown clothes.
Now they are working in conjunction with several charities in the Peterborough area to send donated clothes to refugees who have been forced to leave most of their possessions behind as they flee their war-torn country.
Clothes can be taken to the same collection points as for Ella’s Project, as well as our reception in Winsover Road, Spalding.
Mark, a staff nurse with Lincolnshire Community Health Services, said: “No matter what your political beliefs or stance, there are people who are in desperate need of our help.
“If we can assist them even just by giving their children something to wear, I feel we’ll be doing something positive.
“On this occasion we will accept any donations of clean, useable, unsoiled children’s clothes from 0-18 years old, but they must be marked up as Ella’s Syrian Appeal so that we can tell the donations apart.”
Mark said it was an urgent appeal, with donations either taken to European countries where refugees are congregating or flown to camps in Syria within the next two or three weeks.
Sarah, a music teacher at The Voyager Academy in Peterborough, said: “We are grateful for any support or help we get no matter how big or small.”
