New Tools and Talk group opens

A new Tools and Talk group is launching this week in Spalding, designed for men in the area.

Project St Thomas is hosting the community initiative which will have weekly meetings on Tuesday from 2.15pm to 4.45pm.
It has been funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fun (UKSPF) and supported by Long Sutton’s Men’s Shed.
The new group offers a dual-purpose environment; a practical repair service for the community, combined with a relaxed social space for men of all skill levels and interests to connect.
“This initiative addresses a significant gap in services for men in our area,” said Tracey Carter, relationship manager at Project St Thomas.
“Thanks to the UKSPF funding and the mentorship provided by Long Sutton Men’s Shed, we are able to create this vital space where men can contribute to the community while building useful relationships,” she said.
When the group is fully established, it’s hoped that it can offer a repair service for small jobs – from fixing a loose drawer bottom to repairing broken picture frames.
“This service will be offered for a suggested donation, making repairs more accessible to those on limited incomes.”
Practical skills are not a requirement for men to join and those who drink tea and play cards or dominoes are equally welcome to join.
“Community repairs with conversation that matters, that’s what Tools & Talk is all about,” said Frank Heinrich-Tiller, of Long Sutton Men’s Shed.
The new group meets at Project St Thomas, 52 St Thomas Road, Spalding and is free to join.
l There is free training for volunteers at the project to become money mentors.
The service is offered to residents who need help with everything from budgeting to benefits. It also offers signposting services for debt advice.
Volunteers are welcome to train for the roles and the service aims to be up and running by January 2026. Contact Tracey on 07719 189528.
