Youngsters are enjoying a revamped play area in Moulton Seas End.
The £50,000 project came to fruition after villager Tracy Andrew wrote to Moulton Parish Council asking for the equipment to be improved.
The council worked with Tracy, who made a grant application to WREN (Waste Recycling Environmental Ltd), and a host of companies to modernise the play area.
Ward parish councillor Geoff Cooper said the new equipment near the crossroads in the village is proving a big hit.
“It’s already well used at school turning-out times,” he said. “Every time I’ve been by there since the new equipment has been installed there’s been children playing.”
The site, which now offers equipment for a broader range of ages, has benefited from:
- multi-play units
- new cradle swings and flat swings
- rocking surfboard (a modern version of a see-saw)
- ‘mobile phone’ tubing communication system
- netted swing and roundabout, specifically for disabled users
- rope walk
The bulk of the funding for the project came with a £35,000 grant from WREN, a not-for-profit business that helps benefit the lives of people who live close to landfill sites.
Donors included Moulton Parish Council, Naylor Farms, Lincolnshire Field Products, Oldershaw, Bakkavor, DW Panter, Emmett and South Holland District Council ward members Andrew Woolf, Rodney Grocock and Anthony Casson (from their members’ designated budgets).
Parish council clerk Helen Worth said the play area is also likely to get picnic tables in due course.
An official opening of the new play equipment is planned for Monday, September 8 at 4pm.
Bonkers the clown will be there between 3.30pm and 5.30pm, and there will also be face painting, balloon modelling and a magic show.
