New manhole the stuff of dreams

A Spalding resident says he can finally sleep at night after a noisy manhole was repaired.

Paul Doubleday and residents of Holland Road have been requesting Anglian Water replace the loose cover since August.
They were initially told by the company that they only replace manholes that are unsafe, which this was deemed not to be.
But after two attempts by Anglian Water to lessen the noise over Christmas, following repeated complaints the company finally agreed to put a new cover in.
It followed district councillors Mark Le Sage and David Ashby getting involved.
“It means we can sleep at night now,” said Paul. “It was making noise 24 hours a day and was getting louder as it deteriorated.
“The lady across the road has two kids who were kept awake by it, as was the nurse who works shifts. You couldn’t help but notice the noise.
“It’s a shame it took so long but at least it’s been done now.”
