New leader sets out his priorities for South Holland

Coun Nick Worth is set to be the new leader of South Holland District Council.

He’s been elected for the position by members of the Conservative group who maintained control of the authority by winning 19 seats to the 18 taken by Independent candidates in last week’s election.

One of the councillors they lost though was the previous leader Lord Gary Porter.

Coun Worth has been his deputy for 20-years and is now set to be voted in to his old role when the new-look South Holland District Council meets on Wednesday (May 17).

The Conservative group voted him in unopposed at a meeting of their members last night (Thursday).

“I am still adjusting to the fact that I am now Leader of the Group,” he said. “It obviously wasn’t something I was expecting even a week ago and has been a roller coaster since Friday morning, I but am looking forward to the challenge.

“Looking forward my priorities include ensuring the new sports complex is completed which is a massive project on its own along with the extra care housing which is so badly needed in the district.

“I’ll also look at consolidating the South and East Lincolnshire Councils partnership, working with the leaders of East Lindsay and Boston Borough to ensure that it continues to flourish, saving us money which enables us to deliver better services.

“We’ll be continuing to bring in inward investment into the district and encouraging business growth and more skilled and better paid jobs.

“Green energy is also high on my agenda, with a prospective hydrogen plant coming forward in the near future.

“I would also like a bigger focus on some of our other towns and villages and the completion of the Spalding Town Centre Improvement Plan.”
