The loss of home advantage did not prevent the new Spalding United ladies’ team getting life off to a stunning start.
With the Sir Halley Stewart Field’s new artificial surface not yet ready to hosts games, the Tulips had to switch their FA Women’s Cup tie to opponents Crick Athletic’s ground alongside the M1 near Rugby.
Undaunted, they demolished the hosts 6-0 with Tara Parker grabbing a hat-trick to go with single strikes from Katie-Louise Reilly, Alicia Podd and Constance Onyinah.
Their reward is a real home tie in the second qualifying round when they play host to Anstey Nomads on Sunday, September 21.
Before that, the Tulips make their Cambs Women’s League bow at Eaton Socon this Sunday, 2pm.
Building on the success of England’s Lionesses, Spalding will be fielding two teams this season, as well as the senior ladies team, the club have also formed a an under-18s ‘Blues’ team.
The club are looking for new players to boost both squads. They will be training on Wednesdays on the new 4G pitch with FA qualified coaches, 7.30pm-9pm.
