New hospital is going ahead

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be rebuilt as it is exempt from a review of projects.

The government has confirmed that seven RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) built hospitals can proceed.
The decision was welcomed by hospital leaders and it paves the way for a state-of-the-art hospital to be built on the existing site for a 2030 opening.
“This is fantastic news for our patients, our community and our staff. We know just how much the QEH means to the surrounding community and this announcement will be welcomed by all those connected to the hospital,” said Alice Webster, Chief Executive Officer.
“The new hospital will feature modern construction methods and healthcare innovations to meet the needs of the local population for generations to come,” she added.
A series of meetings are planned to share more information about the rebuild.
The Curlew Centre, Sutton Bridge, will be hosting an event from 6.30pm on Wednesday, November 13. There will also be a virtual event on Thursday, November 7 and the website is www.qehkl.nhs.uk
