New homes plan to help secure future of sports club in Long Sutton

The future of Long Sutton Cricket and Hockey Club could be secured with a residential development.

A planning application has been submitted for three homes off Park Road.

The Long Sutton Community Sports Association is trying to raise money to re-surface the artificial hockey pitch.

“The association has managed to raise only 50 per cent of the funds required to re-surface their playing pitch and further attempts for additional funding have proved unsuccessful,” says a design and access statement submitted with the application to South Holland Council.

“If the pitch is not re-surfaced it is possible the hockey club may have to close as the nearest alternative playing pitch some eight miles away is fully used and has no spare capacity,” it adds.

The cricket club relies on the hockey club to support the cost of the pavilion building and its grounds.

The application is for three detached bungalows, one chalet-style, on the eastern end of the grounds. The area is not used for any purpose by either club.

“The physical state of the application site has deteriorated further and is currently completely overgrown with scrub,” says the application, which has been submitted by Broadgate Homes.

The site is within the Conservation Area of Long Sutton.
