New holiday park plans

Councillors have said they hope building a holiday park in Whaplode will attract visitors to the area as one called previous planners ‘Philistines’ for not allowing more sculptures in the village.

Bleu Raye Farm, off Millgate, has been before South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee on many occasions, and was previously listed to be a gypsy and traveller site.
Now the council says it has enough of such areas, so last week councillors passed plans to build 19 three and two bed holiday units with sheds plus a manager’s lodge.
Coun Allan Beal said: “It’s linked to the wonderful location of Whaplode. We have a church 900 years old next year. It is a village of sculptures. What better to have this facility to attract people?
“Having toured Whaplode, they can then tour Moulton.
“This is much needed in the area.”
Coun Bryan Alcock said more should have been done in Whaplode previously.
“It’s a great pity this committee wasn’t more supportive of the benefactor wanting to put up more statues and things of that nature when the applications were made,” he said. “At the time we were philistines.”
Planning committee chair James Avery said: it “looks like Center Parcs coming to Whaplode”
Coun Andrew Tennant added: “We live in this area but we take the natural beauty of The Fens for granted.
“These look more like lodges than caravans.”
