New Holbeach shop offers the chance to refine sewing skills

Sewing enthusiasts will have the perfect chance to refine their skills with the opening of a new shop in Holbeach.

Lorraine Gardner will be welcoming customers to Sew Last Year where she will be offering workshops and classes in making a range of things from bunting to bags and clothes to cuddly toys.

“I have always sewn and it has always been my dream to have a business like this and now I am in a position to do it – but it is a bit scary,” she said.

Lorraine has not worked in a formal sense for more than 30 years as she devoted her time to raising a family of three sons and a daughter.

But she retained her shop-owning dream and on Friday the doors of her business in Boston Road will open to the public for the first time.

“I have six sewing machines and will be offering workshops at £5 an hour for two and three hour sessions,” she said.

People taking part in the workshops don’t have to be experienced, as the machines are designed for those wanting to learn.

“The shop will also sell things I have made including cushions, bunnies and pieces of interior design,” she said.

There will be workshops every day, except Wednesday and Sunday, and the shop will be open from 9.30am to 5pm.
