New fitness class is aiming to keep ladies on the ball

Ladies gripped by Euro 2016 football fever can now get a taste of the action with a new fitness class being launched in South Holland.
For the first time in the area, Soccercise sessions are being launched in a six-week block, starting on Monday, July 4.
The idea was developed by the Football Association and is an aerobic class, combining a variety of fitness exercises with a football.
Elements of the class are delivered as a group exercise and others based on repetitions of specific exercises (ie press-ups, squats, sit-ups).
The inclusion of footballs adds co-ordination and core stability to familiar exercises – although there is no actual kicking of footballs included in these sessions.
Footballs are provided and you don’t need specialised kit – just trainers, comfortable clothing and a drink.
The sessions will be delivered by Holly Barrett, of Spalding-based Give It Some Fizz Fitness, Sports and Education.
She said: “Anyone can take part. You don’t need to have played any football before to get involved.
“The exercises cater for all abilities and adaptations are included to make the exercises easier or harder depending on fitness levels.”
The sessions will be running for a six-week block on Monday evenings (starting July 4) at Monkshouse Lane playing field in Spalding and on Wednesday evenings (starting July 6) at Carter’s Park in Holbeach.
Both classes will be held from 7pm-8pm and places can be booked by calling Holly on 07800 566058 or Zoe on 07921 553849 or e-mail [email protected]
