New café opens for dementia visits

A Holbeach care home is opening its doors with the creation of a new Dementia café.

The initiative is being launched at Sunrise Meadow, which is the dementia care unit at Holbeach Meadows.
The café is open to all families and also to members of the local community who are supporting someone living with dementia.
“We recognise that it can be a lonely and isolated role supporting someone who is living with dementia, and we want to be able to provide a support network for these carers.
“As well as peer support, the Holbeach Meadows team will be able to offer support and advice, and the opportunity to talk through how to deal with situations or signpost to other professionals,” said a spokesman for the home.
The first event is due to be held on Friday, September 22 from 2.30pm to 4pm as part of World Alzheimer’s Month and is designed to be a social event to get to know people and find out what they would like.
“We will hold a café every month and will plan topics, guest speakers and visiting professionals to tie-in what has been identified as a need.
“People who are living with dementia will be invited to join in with our lifestyle team and our residents’ activities while carers come together for a chat and to enjoy a cup of tea.”
Topics will be planned and guest speakers invited to take part.
Please contact the home in advance on 01406 431222 or email [email protected]
World Alzheimer’s Month is designed to raise awareness and challenge stigma surrounding the condition.
