New bikes help PCSOs to patrol their patches

PCSOs will be getting on their bikes to patrol the towns and villages they cover thanks to the generosity of two district councillors.

The officers will be able to provide a visible presence across Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge after South Holland district councillors donated money from their budgets to buy pushbikes for the pair.

Sgt Gareth Boxall said: “The use of a police bike is a brilliant way of us being visible to as much of the community as possible but still approachable and easily accessible.

“I would ask everyone living in the area to keep an eye out for the PCSOs on their bikes – they will happily stop and speak with anyone who might have a problem or concern to discuss.

“We work very closely with both the district and parish councils in the area and this is another example of how they help us to help their communities.”

The bikes were handed over to PCSOs Fylippa Bennett and Toni Cardillo at the Curlew Centre, Sutton Bridge, on Friday.

They were bought with donations from Couns Chris Brewis and Michael Booth of Sutton Bridge and Couns Simon Booth, Andy Tennant and David Wilkinson, from Long Sutton.

Coun Brewis said: “The close relationship between our communities and Toni and Fyllippa is much valued, both by us and our residents.

“If these bikes make their task that bit more effective and easy, everyone will benefit.”

Coun Booth added: “The PCSOs are our local eyes and ears of the Lincolnshire Police.

“We value their huge contribution to making our small towns and villages feel safer for all.”

All of the councillors said they wanted to stress the use of number 101 for ringing in with non emergency police matters.
