New 37-home housing estate plan for Cowbit – but no shop

Plans for 37 new homes in Cowbit have been submitted to South Holland District Council.

Holbeach firm Ashley King Developments wants to build the properties, which will include a 33 per cent provision for affordable housing, on 3.82 acres of land off Backgate.

The plans originally included a village shop but after a public consultation it was dropped as a new shop had just opened in the village and had the support of the community.

There will be a mix of one, two, three and four bedroom homes on the site and the proposal is to provide further family homes, as well as introducing smaller, terraced properties as part of the overall mix on offer within the village for younger single people or couples.

The site, which is currently arable farm land, is accessed from Backgate, with existing housing to the north and public open space and sports pitches to the west.

There is a vehicular and pedestrian access to the existing playing fields from Parkin Road and a pedestrian/cycle only link from St Marys Gardens.

The proposed development will seek to provide a new pedestrian and cycle link to the open space from the west. This will not only be of benefit to the new proposal, but also to existing residents living on the eastern site of the village.

Ashley King, of Ashley King Developments, said: “The proposed development will be a high quality residential scheme where people will want to live and create a positive addition to Cowbit.”

The plans will now be considered by the district council planning department.
