Narrow loss for Sutton

Long Sutton Men’s 1st 3 Harleston 2

After last week’s poor first half performance, Sutton were quickly into their stride this week when after just two minutes a well worked midfield move found Frazer Watt in space and his well directed shot gave the goalie no chance.

Eighteen minutes later a clever short corner move saw Stefan Fox slip the ball to Dan Batten who crashed it into the back of the goal.

The rest of the half, the home team were under a lot of pressure with a series of short corners that were expertly saved by goalie Dan Plant.

Defender Andy Shore was in full control at the back, ably supported by Michael Donaghy and Fox.

The second half was a real midfield battle which was eventually broken when a quick break by Sutton down the left touchline was smashed across the goal line and a diving Luke Jackson steered the ball into the goal.

Harleston retaliated with two quick goals.

At this juncture the match descended into a bad tempered affair with a Harleston player receiving a yellow card, and then Sutton captain Josh Baker completely lost his cool running around like a headless chicken before also being given a yellow card.

The home crowd felt let down by these antics and only a gutsy rearguard display enabled Sutton to play out the final ten minutes to earn a vital three points.
