Narrow derby defeat at Stamford leaves Spalding RFC in deep trouble

Spalding RFC’s Midlands Two East (North) survival hopes are now out of their own hands after a 22-19 derby defeat at Stamford on Saturday.

Town are now three points above of the drop zone with three games to play, but their relegation rivals Mansfield – who lost 62-8 at West Bridgford – do have a game in hand.

That is next weekend against rock-bottom Bakewell – meaning Spalding could be in the drop zone when they next play against Ashbourne on April 2.

More to follow.

RESULTS

Midlands Two East (N): Ashbourne 20 Southwell 17; Bakewell Mannerians 10 Nottingham Casuals 20; Coalville 24 Melbourne 41; Dronfield 11 Market Bosworth 22; Stamford 22 Spalding 19; West Bridgford 62 Mansfield 8.
