Mums step forward for charity

A team of mums has been pounding the streets for the last six months in preparation for a 26 mile walk to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer.

Lucy Day, Sarah Storey, Katie Lacey and Hayley Hammond met when their sons joined a local primary school and are to walk 26 miles to raise money for the charity.
All four ladies enjoy fitness and walking but this is a challenge for them all and it has taken much time and dedication to build up to their final walk on Saturday May 20.
Hayley said: “When we talked about this in the summer last year a 10k walk was a good distance for us, now we discuss a 10-mile walk as if it’s an every day walk!
“The furthest we have walked so far is just over 20 miles but we hope on the day the adrenaline and atmosphere will push us on for those last few miles.”
The quartet initially set out to raise £1,000 but they now have set themselves a challenge to get up to £2,500.
At the time of going to print the team has raised £1,971.
They have a long day on May 20 as they have to be in Cromer, Norfolk, for 6.25am to then walk the 26 miles along the coast path to Holkham.
“We have a target in mind of how quickly we are aiming to complete the course,” Hayley said. “But this will be weather, blister and energy dependent – watch this space!”
If you would like to sponsor the team they would be very grateful.
