Pinchbeck United kept their unbeaten start to the ChromaSport Peterborough Premier Division season going on Saturday with a 2-2 draw at Stilton United.

Adam Abell fired Pinchbeck ahead on the half-hour, only for Chris Joiner to haul the hosts level on the stroke of half-time.

The in-form Abell added his second after the break as Ian Dunn’s depleted side looked set for another impressive win, but Joiner’s late leveller ensured the spoils were shared.

With a host of key men missing, Dunn was satisfied with the result – but told The Voice that there’s much more to come from his side.

The player/boss said: “If you had offered me a draw before the game, I’d have taken it. We went into the game without seven or eight regulars, so we have to be happy.

“It was always going to be tough, but we got ourselves ahead. Sadly, tiredness came into it and we had no fresh legs to bring off the bench.

“I’d say that 2-2 was a fair result really. We did have a lot of chances in the first half, though.

“However, to still be unbeaten at this stage is, of course, always a good thing. I said at the start of the season that we’ll not be close to our true ability by September or October – and I stand by that.

“There’s definitely more to come from the lads, I think we’re only scratching the surface of what we are capable of.

“With that in mind, it’s been a very promising start for us.”

Dunn also took the time to thank Spalding United chief Pat Rayment for allowing him to use young midfielder George Stainfield as he struggled to field a side on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Pinchbeck have re-signed former favourite Robbie Relf, who spent last year with Holbeach United.

Dunn – who has a seven-day approach in for Deeping’s Ryan Birtles – has also snapped up another ex-Tiger in the shape of Ryan Leggett.

The full back should be in the squad for Saturday’s trip to rivals Moulton Harrox in the President Premier Shield (1.30pm).

Before then, Pinchbeck visit Crowland Town tomorrow (Wednesday, 6.30pm).

Pinchbeck: Ashton, Melton, B Murrell, Dunn, Rodwell, Lawe, McDonnell, G Stainfield, Gosling, Saebe, Abell.
