Moulton’s title bid goes down to wire

Moulton Harrox are taking the South Lincs Border League Championship title race the wire.

A 40-run win at home to Grantham Seconds leaves them eight points behind leaders Newborough with only two games left to play.

Matt Rose lost the toss and his side were asked to bat. They lost openers Matthew Barnett and Jamie Juckes cheaply but Flynn McMillan (53) and Ruari Drumm (45) dug them out of a hole, leading the team from 10/2 to 95/3. Paul Edgeller (31) and captain Rose (39) maintained the momentum before a late collapse saw them all out for 212 in the 45th over.

Rain showers meant Grantham’s target was reduced to 155 from 32.2 overs and they were always behind the required run rate as the home bowlers kept things tight after an early blast from opener Martin Parmley, who hit eight fours in his 23-ball 32.

Drumm (2-21) and Curtis Todd (2-24) took two wickets each, with single successes for Edgeller and Harry Shersby as Grantham closed their innings on 114/6.

Moulton’s Sunday side were well beaten in Division Four East of the Rutland Sunday League.

Aravind Kailas top-scored with 19 of their 82 all out at Royal Strikers, with Eranda Munasinghege (15) the only other better to reach double figures.

Oliver Despicht led the Moulton response with 2-24 from his six overs but Strikers were always in control and reached 85 with six wickets in hand.
