Moulton Harrox pushed early pacesetters Woodhall Spa 2nd but came up short in South Lincs and Border League Championship.
With a relatively unchanged side and a positive looking top five, Moulton skipper Josh Newton was thrilled when Woodhall won the toss and elected to field first.
Brothers Matt and Jack Barnett reunited their opening partnership, navigating a strong Woodhall attack.
The partnership reached 65 before Matt was bowled for 38.
Newton marched to the crease, starting with a swashbuckling array of aggressive attacks. He and Jack Barnett added a partnership of 85, with Barnett scrambling for a well-made 50.
Newton got trapped on the crease attempting an uncharacteristic hack against a loose delivery that crashed into his leg stump.
It wasn’t a good day for Jamie Kitchen, caught for a disappointing eight.
Talented all-rounder Matt Rose was next in but only made three runs.
Barnett was finally out after anchoring the innings with 59 from 91 balls.
A few contributions from the lower order provided a total of 186-8 which Moulton were confident of defending.
Kitchen opened the bowling alongside Alex Baker as Woodhall began slowly, building a strong innings.
Harry Lovell demonstrated his further ability, taking the wicket of skipper Simon Behan for a well made 31 from 51 and finished with figures of 2-28.
Woodhall continued to chip away at the target.
Rose and Cam Fox chipped in with a wicket and Junaid Alam bowled well but Woodhall were able to knock off the total with four down in the 44th over.
lMoulton 2nd fell 73 runs short at home to Baston in Dvision One.
Simon Juckes and Curtis Todd opened the bowling, making top work of Baston’s batting line-up.
Baston found themselves 14-4 but the middle order turned the pressure back to Moulton with scores of 51, 47 and an unbeaten 26 taking the total to 185 all out.
Juckes was the pick of the bowlers with 3-17, with useful contributions from Todd 2-32, Jackson 3-34 and Jamie Juckes 2-31.
Although the total surpassed initial expectations, the target was still achievable.
The usual pairing of Juckes and Mark Ramsden opened proceedings but neither could capitalise on the solid start made.
Youngster Ruari Drumm continued his good run of form with an excellent 30, but with only Danny Jackson (24) providing support, Moulton came up short.
lAfter winning the toss, Moulton Sunday skipper Ramsden had no hesitation in sticking CSKA into the field.
Kitchen opened up, eagerly supported by Steve Zinger. Zinger was trapped in front, with Kitchen shortly being triggered for 31.
Drumm scored 19, before Ramsden made it a hat-trick of dismissals with another LBW.
Youngster Harry Lovell came out of the shed to knock up a solid 43, with a few runs knocked in the lower order, Moulton set a competitive 146-8.
The opening bowling pair of Kitchen and Lovell made light work of the top order, taking 2-23 and 3-15 respectively.
CSKA’s number four added a useful 37, but Moulton attack bowled the opposition out with 20 runs needed.
