Moulton Park officially opens

It’s been decades in the making, but finally Moulton Park was given its official opening ceremony on Saturday.

The John and Maureen Biggadike Foundation has purchased the 20 acres of land which is now open for the public to enjoy.

The event featured a ribbon-cutting by Mrs. Phillippa Walton, a descendant of Joe Ward (a former owner of the land), as well as the planting of a commemorative tree, donated by Baytree Garden Centre, Weston.

The celebration was attended by trustees from the Biggadike Foundation, members of the newly formed Moulton Park Management Committee, local councillors, community groups and residents.

“This is a truly special day for Moulton,” said Steven Adcock, chairman of the Moulton Park management committee.

“Thanks to the generosity of the Biggadike Foundation, this beautiful space is now protected and available for the enjoyment of current and future generations.”

The committee says it will look to launch fundraising efforts soon as part of the project.
Planned features include wildlife zones and nature play areas, accessible pathways, seating, and inclusive facilities, picnic spots and communal garden areas.

The committee is also exploring options for memorial installations and heritage features, educational signage and putting on events such as fetes, nature walks, and activities for local youth organisations.

A spokesman for the committee said: “With its established trees, abundant wildlife, natural surroundings,

Moulton Park already offers a tranquil setting for walking, exercise, and reflection.

“However, the long-term vision for the park is being shaped by community input, gathered through public meetings and consultations.

“As a legacy of the Biggadike family’s deep-rooted commitment to Moulton, the park not only honours local heritage but also ensures that Moulton Park remains a shared, welcoming, and inspiring place for generations to come.”
