Moulton Harrox’s Saturday sides took on Newborough at the weekend with both XIs falling to defeats,
Playing away from home in the South Lincs and Border League Championship, 1st XI captain Chris Beale lost the toss with Newborough electing to bowl on a very warm spring day.
Beale and Jamie Juckes opened the batting against the home side’s strong attack.
Juckes began as the aggressor with Beale dropping the anchor and providing the assured security down the other end.
The partnership began to flourish with Beale increasing his own run rate and Juckes reaching his maiden 1st XI 50.
One too many wild chops at a loose delivery ended the skipper’s innings on 38 ending a 99-run opening partnership.
But Moulton then lost three wickets without adding to the scores.
Juckes was caught hacking one too many for 57 and Australian Jamie Kitchen lasted only two deliveries, out playing a wild slog.
Seasoned all-rounder Matt Rose was well supported for a time by youngster Rurri Drumm who held off a strong Newborough attack to rebuild the innings.
With 31 from Rose, there was little support from the lower order, with the last six batsman scoring a total of six between them.
Moulton ended up 153 all out from 38 overs, an under par but defendable total.
Kitchen and Harry Lovell took the new ball, with the latter impressing once again despite not getting the breakthrough.
Rose (1 for 17) came into the attack taking an early wicket before a brutal onslaught of the Moulton attack from Newborough’s number three Vamshi Parvathaneni (60 from 28 balls) put the game out of reach.
Newborough ended on 157 for 3 earning the seven wicket win from 24.1 overs.
qA strong looking Moulton Harrox 2nd XI were defeated by Newborough 2n XI at Broad Lane.
Captain Mark Ramsden won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first
He opened the batting alongside Lewis Peak who was out early attempting to play a loose delivery, only to be caught and bowled for three before Lewis Martin came in at three but was bowled for 0.
Lincolnshire over 50s Karl Hibbert showed glimpses of returning to form with a flurry of quick runs alongside Ramsden until the captain was served a dross delivery which he chipped to a fielder for 18.
Hibbert went shortly after for a well made 19.
Junaid Alam and Clyde Bayston didn’t last long going for a combined three runs.
With the older men not bringing in the runs, it was up to the youth with Anish Suwareraj (13 not out), Cam Fox (23) and Zak Maddison (17 not out) batting out the 45 for 109-9.
Defending this total would always be a tough task, but some words of wisdom from talisman Bayston, Ramsden’s men were ready to fight.
Simon Juckes and Alex Baker opened the bowling with Juckes decorating the stumps early on bowling opener Justin Marchant for a duck.
Baker bowled with intense speed but unfortunately no control, which was pleasantly greeted by Newborough as Tim Dock (30) and Thomas Law (15) rebuilt.
Alam bought Harrox back into the game with 3 for 20 but unfortunately there were just not enough runs on the board, with Newborough reaching the total in less than 20 overs thanks in part to Chester Hercock’s 48 not out.
