Motel’s latest donation to charity

A local philanthropist who believes he’s raised nearly £800,000 for veterans over the years has come good again.

Harold Payne, the owner of the Anglia Motel, Fleet, recently handed over a cheque for £10,000 to The Royal Anglian regiment’s Benevolent Fund.

Soldiers from the regiment received the cheque at the motel’s recent Wheels Weekend which saw a display of classic vehicles.

Harold said: “We’ve had a very good year of fundraising again through our events and the collection tins in the motel.

“On top of taking the veterans to Normandy we were able to provide £10,000 for the The Royal Anglian Regiment for the Benevolent Fund which means we’ve been able to provide them with over £160,000 over the last few years,” continued Harold who says he has been raising funds for 28 years.

The next fundraising event at the Anglia Motel is the annual firework display, this year taking place on November 3.

The first of two 20-minute displays takes place at 7pm with tickets £9 for adults and £7 for children.
