More works on recently reworked junctions

There’s more roadworks set for two Spalding roundabouts that have been revamped in recent works.

The A16 junctions at Pinchbeck will have night closures and the McDonald’s/Springfield Roundabout temporary traffic lights starting in a few weeks time.

Lincolnshire County Council say it’s because the road surfacing put in place ‘did not meet our requirements’.

It’s the second time that the McDonald’s A151 junction has had to have repairs despite 14 months of works having only been declared finished in ‘November’.

After five weeks of further work that finished in April, it will now be subject to temporary traffic lights from 10pm to 6am from Monday Septembers 1 for five nights.

The footpath at the A16 northbound footway will be closed for two full days from August 26 to 28.

The Pinchbeck roundabout, which was completed in March after 10 months of work, will be closed from 8pm to 6am for up to four nights from Thursday August 26.

A diversion will be in place northbound taking traffic by the A151 and A17 and southbound via the A152 and B1356.

Jonathan Evans, head of highways client, said: “We always carry out thorough investigations to ensure the finished product of our major road projects meet the high standards we expect.

“Unfortunately, some of the new road surfacing at Pinchbeck Roundabout and Springfield Roundabout didn’t meet the requirements we specified in our design. As a result, the contractor will be repairing these issues at their own cost as part of our contract with them.

“In addition, a fuel spill near the shared footway/cyclearway at Springfield Roundabout has caused damage that needs to be rectified, which will be paid for by the lorry company’s insurance.”

When announcing finished works in March, l then executive member for Highways Richard Davies said: “As always, we try to carry out as much work as possible while at a particular site to avoid further disruption down the line – and this project is a perfect example of that.”

Announcing the latest works Mr Evans said: “Making these repairs now will save us money and time in the future, and will also prevent disruption down the line.
“I want to thank everyone in advance for bearing with us during these works.”
