More work on town’s war memorials

Spalding’s war memorials are to get a makeover.

The structures in Ayscoughfee Gardens have recently been cleaned.
They’re now set to have more work done to them, a meeting of South Holland District Council was told last week.
Coun Elizabeth Sneath said: “We will shortly be repainting all of the names on both World War I memorials and the World War II memorial which will make them clearer to read.
“We’ll be carrying out the sympathetic repairs to the original Lutyens edifice using heritage stone masons and artwork.
“We plan to carry out this work over the next few months and hopefully it should be completed early next year.”
