More virus cases at care home and food processing plant

A care home and food processing plant are among those to see an increase in COVID-19 cases after recent testing.

Following representations from members of the public Morrisons confirmed further cases at its Woodhead site in Spalding as has Cedar Falls Care Home.

A spokesman from Morrisons said a “small number” of cases had been confirmed while the company states it continues to follow Public Health England guidelines.

“We have had a small number of colleagues test positive for COVID-19 at our Spalding site and we wish them a speedy recovery,” the spokesman said.

“We follow Public Health England guidelines and in some areas go beyond them in ensuring that the site remains safe for our colleagues.”

The Cedar Falls Care Home in Spalding, which is run by Tanglewood, has said it’s still waiting to see exactly how many of its staff and patients had caught the virus.

Its managing director Nike Ajewole said: “We have some of our residents and staff that were tested positive but I cannot confirm numbers as we are still waiting for some results.”

According to the latest statistics available as The Voice went to press, there had been 32,692 deaths of those who had tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK.

Public Health England has said in its most recent data there were 131 recorded cases in South Holland.

That’s out of the 916 confirmed cases reported in Lincolnshire.

In the most recent data from the North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, 90 had died from the disease at Peterborough City Hospital as of May 9,
