Spalding race ace Andy Molsom is poised for a thrilling finale to the Caterham Graduates Championship.
Molsom returned a podium double from rounds 11 and 12 of the championship at the famous Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire.
That ensured Molsom has recorded 11 podiums from 12 races this year and leaves him tied at the top of the standings with reigning champion Toby Briant.
There are just two rounds left which means the destiny of the title could go down to the wire.
Molson commented: “The racing is getting very close with three clear contenders for the championship.
“To be in contention, I have to concentrate on race wins for the final four races of the year.”
Qualifying went well for the Molsom & Associates Optometrists star who gained two third place starts.
With the qualifying and both races condensed into one day, Saturday’s opening outing saw Molsom get a good start and maintain his third place.
Championship contender Briant had gear selection problems on lap two which dropped him down the order and left Ed Benson and Molsom to fight it out for the lead.
Despite numerous changes to the lead, Benson was victorious by just 0.6 seconds at the chequered flag.
The second race saw Benson, Briant and Molsom go three-a-breast around the first corner.
This was followed by a three-way battle for the entire race.
Despite all three drivers taking the lead at some point of the race, Benson was again victorious with Molsom finishing just behind Briant in third place.
Molsom continued: “Oulton Park is a fantastic little park circuit.
“It was only my second visit and it took a few laps to get to grips with the fast corners on Friday testing.
“But I seemed to have sorted it for the races.
“It was a good solid weekend and to be fighting for the lead after a difficult testing day was great.”
The next meeting is at Anglesey, North Wales, in early September before the finale at SpaFrancochamps in Belgium.
