Model train service

Every train was on time, all the platforms sparkled and there were plenty of seats for all the passengers, but they had to be very small.

This Utopian vision of travelling by train came courtesy of the Spalding Model Railway Club.
South Holland District Council member Mark Le Sage was invited to go along and judge all the layouts at the Springfields Exhibition Centre last weekend.
“It was amazing how detailed the models were, and how much dedication and time had been put in,” he said.
The Springfield Cup was awarded to Barry Platt’s Ashdan Junction, and he also won the Spalding Club Shield, awarded following a public ballot.
The John Brown Memorial Shield, awarded in memory of a club stalwart, was won by a layout called Norman Colliery, constructed by Geoff Brain.

Organiser Shaun Barnes said: “It went very well. We still haven’t got the final details, but we think we were even busier than we were last year.

“We’re going to be back for 2025 on November 1 and 2 at Springfields with tickets on sale from May.”

The John Brown Memorial Shield was won by Geoff Brain for his creation of his Norman Colliery.
Barry Platt also won the Spalding Club Shield, voted for by the public.
