Spalding Water Polo have endured mixed fortunes in their latest two matches in the Herts League.
They suffered a 14-5 defeat against Cambridge, who led 5-2, 9-3 and 13-3 in the first three quarters respectively.
Spalding played much better in the final quarter, to at least win that 2-1.
Despite the score, goalkeeper Jon Davis had an excellent game.
Scorers for Spalding were John James (3), Jimmy Hook and Ed Martin.
They did, however, fare much better in their match against Dunstable, winning 12-2.
Spalding were in charge in all four quarters, with another excellent goal keeping display from Davis preventing Dunstable from scoring until the final three minutes of the game.
Scorers were Martin (a superb hat-trick in the final quarter), Ben Marsters (3), Tom Norfolk (3), Steve Rogers (2) and Nick Rickett.
Spalding also played a friendly against the RAF Water Polo team at RAF Cranwell, in what was a practice match for the RAF for the forthcoming Inter-Services event.
It was a close match, with RAF leading 2-1 after the first quarter.
Spalding, however, hit back to lead 5-3 at half-time and it was 6-6 at the end of the third quarter.
But the RAF had a better final quarter, scoring five to Spalding’s one to clinch an 11-7 success.
Scorers were James (a hat-trick in the second quarter), Rogers (3) and Anton Vladescu.
