Micro energy site at Sir Halley

Plans for a micro energy storage facility in Spalding have been given the green light after a fire safety assessment was carried out.
AMP Clean Energy applied to South Holland District Council for the facility to be constructed and operate on land at the Sir Halley Stewart Playing Field, in Winfrey Avenue, writes local democracy reporter Oliver Castle.
The proposed development will feature a concrete plinth foundation, installation of a battery storage cabinet and a 2.4 metre paladin fence which would surround the battery box.
Members of the district council’s planning committee approved the application at a planning meeting on October 8.
Coun Ingrid Sheard who represents the Spalding Monkshouse ward, asked for the plans to be assessed to ensure that there were adequate protocols in place to reduce the risk of the facility catching fire.
She said: “This site is surrounded by residential dwellings, what will be the risk to residents should a fire break out and what measures have been put in place to ensure that there is no risk to residents in and around the area?”
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has issued guidance on the facility to reduce the risk of a fire breaking out at the site owned by SHDC.
The fire service said areas within ten metres of the energy units should be kept clear of any vegetation to reduce the risks of the facility catching fire.
It also recommended that environmental protection measures to contain and manage water runoff should be added to the development.
Coun Andrew Woolf said as the application was passed: “We’ve got these popping up left, right and centre at the moment and we know the reasons why.”
