Mick retires after 49 years with Spalding firm

Fewer and fewer people in future are going to be able to emulate the loyal working-life achievement of Mick Taylor.

He has just retired from Spalding’s Elsoms Seeds after a remarkable 49 years and nine months’ service.

The company’s longest-serving employee began his career as a Saturday boy at the retail shop Elsom House in Broad Street, Spalding. Around a year later, he moved to Albert Warehouse in Pinchbeck Road where Elsoms Seeds is now located, working in the cereals department as a seed sampler. He worked his way up to warehouse manager in 1984.

A retirement lunch was held at Elsoms last Friday (April 29), attended by 85 of Mick’s colleagues, family and friends. Also present were some of the contractors who Mick has worked closely with over the years.
Elsoms managing director Robin Wood presented him with a camera, vouchers and a lawnmower.

Mick is now looking forward to spending more time with his wife Iris. They plan to tour the UK in a touring caravan with all the extra time he now has.

A spokesman for Elsoms Seeds said: “We would like to wish Mick a very happy retirement and thank him for being such an integral part of the company over the many years he has worked.”
