Methodist church to be converted

Holbeach Drove Methodist Church is being sold-off after almost 200 years of housing community worship and family occasions.

The church hosted its last service in April, and a planning application has been submitted for a change of use.
“The chapel has been a place of peace and calm, of connecting with God and marking significant life events for so many residents,” said the Rev Luke Smith, superintendent of South Holland Methodist Church.
He added that any proceeds from the sale of the property would be put to ‘good use within the circuit.’
A planning application has been submitted to South Holland District Council to change the use of the building, on Chapel Drove, into a single dwelling.
“The managing trustees put their request to cease to meet and advertise for sale to South Holland Methodist Circuit and Lincolnshire Methodist District. The trustees felt their presence was no longer viable,” added Rev Smith.
“The decision to cease to meet was not an easy one, the building holds so many precious memories.
“For many years there has been a good relationship with a local parish church (shared worship once a quarter) and worshipping in each other’s churches twice a month.
“It is intended that this relationship will continue, as well as the congregation worshipping in other local Methodist churches.”
There are currently no building works taking place.
