Men’s Shed put on their own ‘Repair Shop’

A popular local group who have come together to beat loneliness have taken inspiration from a popular TV programme and set up their own ‘Repair Shop’.

The Long Sutton Men’s Shed was formed several years ago as a place for men to come together, learn crafts or just enjoy each other’s company.
It proved a huge success but hasn’t been able to meet for months due to COVID-19.
It’s now back up and running and offering a whole new service based on the hit TV show The Repair Shop.
People are bringing broken ornaments to the gentlemen who are looking to help fix them.
One person to do just that was Hilda Jarvis, of Tydd St Giles, who had a rare Mayan seven figure Circle of Friends garden ornament.
The shed’s Frank Heinrich-Tiller used his skills to rejuvenate it.
And the shed is also looking to help others who may have items they need fixing, with a bee hive and garden benches among the other items it’s repaired.
A spokesman for the club said: “Our member Frank used his expertise to restore the unique Mayan ornament to its former glory and returned to its owner who was very thankful.
“It’s great we’re now back in business after the long lockdowns.
“We are expanding our range of activities including silver surfers (computer lessons) and we are now offering to repair a wide variety of things.
“We might now also be known as the Long Sutton Repair Shed / Men’s Shed.
“The Shed is now fully open and welcoming new members.
“We are located at the Silverwood Tea Rooms site on St James Road, off the A17 and we are open 9.30am to 1pm every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday.
“Come along and see for yourself what we have to offer.”
