Memorial gates for veterans stolen

Iron gates erected just a month ago to be part of a memorial garden for those who lost their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq have been stolen from Fleet.

Anglia Motel owner Harold Payne was in the process of creating the memorial before the gates were stolen sometime on Saturday night (August 28).

“I would like the person who took them to bring them back,” Harold said. “I can’t believe someone’s taken what was to become part of a memorial for those who lost their lives in recent conflicts.

“I was going to put over a 1,000 roses around the gates which cost £1,000 to install but they’d probably only be worth £40 at most to whoever took them.”
