Memorial bench for Mike

A memorial bench has been unveiled for a much respected councillor.

On Sunday, May 20, the committee of Whaplode St Catherine Memorial Hall dedicated a memorial bench to the memory of the late Coun Mike Pullen in recognition of his service encouragement and support to the committee.

In a short dedication ceremony attended by the committee and members of Mike’s family, vice chairman of the Memorial Hall committee, Carolyn Alcock gave a moving dedication which was responded to with an appreciation from Mrs Ruby Pullen from her son Tony.

Coun Malcolm Chandler said: “Mike was elected to South Holland District Council shortly after the new Memorial Hall committee had been formed and he soon became closely involved with assisting the committee with their plans to rejuvenate the hall and retain Post Office services to the village community.”

The bench is situated in the hall doorway as a mark of the committee’s appreciation to Mike, Coun Chandler said.
