From September, Mini Police recruits will start their beat.
If you think police officers are looking younger nowadays, you’re right.
Lincolnshire Police are currently recruiting their latest batch and none of them are even teenagers.
But the force of Mini Police has proved a popular addition to the force and its now being rolled-out to more than 100 schools in the county – 22 of which are in South Holland.
Initially launched in Boston as the JPSCO (Junior Police School Cadet Officer), the scheme is designed to engage
Year 5 and 8 age children (nine to 11 years old) with their local community and its police personnel.
Schools across South Holland taking part include Weston Hills, Moulton Chapel, William Stukeley, Holbeach,
Holbeach Primary Academy, Spalding Primary, South View, Crowland and Monkshouse, Spalding.
The schools are being visited by local Police Community Support Officers who are leading the activities.
Mini Police Co-ordinator PC Tim Newell said pupils will be issued with uniforms purchased by the schools.
PC Newell added: “Mini Police will work with a PCSO assigned to the school to undertake six tasks throughout the school year.
“These tasks include topics such as ‘Anti-Bullying’, ‘Challenging Diversity’, ‘Social Responsibility’ and ‘Crime Prevention’.
“Tasks are completed not just within school, but also the local community.”
