Medals for top Nene Valley Harriers trio at Northern Indoor Athletics Championship

Three talented athletes won medals as Nene Valley Harriers kicked off their 2017 track and field season in style at the Northern Indoor Athletics Championship meet at Sheffield EIS Arena.

Inspirational performances were the order of the day in the city of steel – and setting the scene was Zoe Lucas, who bounded home with a bronze medal in the senior girls’ 60m hurdles and setting a personal best (PB) time in the process of 8.73 seconds.

First season turn outs for under-17s athletes Jasmine Allen and William Hughes continued the impressive performances.

In their first competitions following their rigorous winter training schedule – in what was supposed to be just an event to blow off the cobwebs – it delivered some outstanding and surprising performances so early in the season.

Allen reached the semi-finals in the 60m with a PB time of 8.33secs.

South Holland ace Hughes was competing in his first-ever 60m and eased into the finals, where he continued his impressive outings from last year to take silver with a PB of 7.19secs.

With the weekend competition drawing to a climax it was a familiar outcome for the impressive Hannah Molyneaux.

The Geoff Capes-trained ace crowned off the athletes’ performances with a gold medal in the under-17 shot putt, powering to a winning throw of 14.47 metres and an indoor PB.

Not content with impressing on the track, some members were also fortunate enough to meet local girl come good, double time Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill.

Based on these early performances it looks like a successful season ahead for Nene Valley.
